SATA (or Serial ATA) is the succesion of Parallel ATA buses offering much faster transfer speeds, reduced size and lower cost. Found in three revisions: SATA 1, 2 & 3.0, SATA 3.0 being the most recent and quickest. eSATA is the revision created for external use & boasts shielded cabling & robust connectors.
