Switch between mulitple HDMI devices with one box...
If you haven't got enough HDMI ports on your TV or display, then you can add more by using HDMI Switch. Connect all your devices to the inputs (DVD/BluRay/PS3/etc) and your TV to the output, and you can just switch between them.
HDMI Switch : Allows you to switch between multiple devices. For example, switch between a SKY HD Box, BluRay Player, DVD Recorder, Freeview Box. Usually only allows one output to one TV. Available with 2 or more inputs, sometimes with a remote control, CEC or manual switching.
HDMI Splitter : If you need to view one HDMI output on more than one display, you'll need a splitter. A splitter sends the same signal to multiple screens, TV's or projectors (HDMI equipped). This means several displays can show the same programme, video or presentation.
HDMI Matrix : A Matrix combines the functionality of a Switch (selector) with a Splitter. It allows you to select one of the multiple inputs and display on one of the multiple outputs. For example if you had 3 devices connected: a TV receiver, a BluRay Player and a Computer, connected to 3 displays, each display could watch something independently, or they could all watch the same. A 4x2 matrix allows for 4 inputs to 2 outputs, 4x4 allows for 4 inputs to 4 outputs, etc. The more combinations, the more costly the matrix becomes.
HDMI Mirror Switch : The same functionality as a HDMI Switch but allows multiple outputs of the same picture. Only one input can be selected, but can be viewed on more than one screen.
CEC : Consumer Electronics Control - this allows you to control multiple devices with just one remote control. The HDMI cable will pass the CEC information to the HDMI connected device (for example HiFi, to increase the surround sound volume, or the BluRay Player to pause the film). CEC isn't widely supported as yet, but will be over time.
